A lawmaker from Zamfara has alleged that 70℅ of the communities he represented at the Zamfara state house of assembly are under the rule of armed bandits.

Hon. Hamisu Faru Nasarawar Burkullu who stated this during an interview with the BBC Hausa service on Wednesday insisted that new sets of armed bandits likely from the neighboring countries have established base along Bukkuyum Forest, and that they are the ones ruling most of the communities under his constituency.

The lawmaker further stated that the armed bandit activities are becoming more alarming along Adabka, Kyaram, Kairu, and Gwashi.

He further stated that other villages such as Ruwan Jema, Ruwan Rana, Gaza Hula, Kurfar Fanya, Barayar Zakj and Rafin Gero were all affected by the new armed bandit threat.

Mr. Faru Nasarawar Burkullu stated that the suspected armed bandits had so far killed about (20) people from the time they started their heinous attacks to date

He alleged that the situation has become out of control to the extent that locals are faced with some consequential threat of not being able to participate in this year’s farming activities.

He specifically pointed that people of Ruwan Rana and Bukkuyum South are left in a serious dilemma as bandits continued to inflict serious hardship on them to the extent that some of them have to flee for their safety.

“Bandits came to our areas in their large numbers, killed several people and rustled unspecified number of cattle,” the lawmaker added.

He therefore called on the federal and state government to come to their help as the activities of these bandits are becoming more threatening.
