Public university lecturers operating under the auspices of ASUU had threatened to go on a nationwide strike last week over what they described as the Federal Government’s unwillingness to honor the 2009 renegotiated agreement.
The notice is part of the resolutions reached at the union’s national executive council meeting, which was held at the University of Ibadan the previous weekend. The union’s demands include welfare matters, funding for universities, and the ability to implement the 2009 renegotiated agreement. No explanation was given for the postponement; however, the meeting is now scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 28.
The notice is a part of the decisions made at the union’s national executive council meeting, which took place the previous weekend at the University of Ibadan.
ASUU requests that the number of universities in the nation be stopped, as well as that welfare issues and finance for institutions be addressed.
The goal of the scheduled meeting was to stop another ASUU walkout.
