Since President Bola Tinubu aimed to reform the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and convey the idea that ministerial tenure is not permanent, his reorganization of the cabinet was not unexpected. The decision was made with consideration for popular desire and to make sure that, under Tinubu’s leadership, governance cannot be a tea party.

By reshuffling the cabinet, Tinubu also aimed to inject fresh perspectives and expertise into key government positions, ensuring that the administration remains dynamic and responsive to the evolving needs of the Nigerian people. This move reflects his commitment to effective governance and his willingness to make tough decisions for the betterment of the country.

After being renamed the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, the largest ministry now in charge of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the South East Development Commission, the Northeast Development Commission, and the Northwest Development Commission is the Ministry of Regional Development. The ministry will be led by Abubakar Momoh, a former minister of Niger Delta development, while Uba Ahmadu, a former minister of steel development, would serve as minister of state.

Following Senator John Enoh’s relocation as Minister of State to the Ministry of Trade, Investment, and Industry, stakeholders have applauded the demolition of the Ministry of Sports. Shehu Dikko will serve as the chair of the National Sports Commission, which will now carry out the duties of the former ministry.

The size of President Tinubu’s cabinet and its effect on recurring spending have drawn criticism. One possible starting point for a kind of ministerial downsizing is the elimination of the role of Minister of State for Youth Development. Ayodele Oluwande, the Minister of State, will now assume the duties of a full minister.

Duplication of ministries, which meant duplication of functions, duality of structures, and double spending, has been the subject of numerous observers’ complaints. The Federal Ministries of Arts and Culture and Tourism should merge to form the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy.

Prof. Tahir Mamman (SAN) (Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development), Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development), and Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs) are among the other ministers removed from the cabinet.

Betta Edu’s comeback to the cabinet is now a reality thanks to the nomination of Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. Yilwatda, who ran for governor last year as a candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), takes Simon Lalong’s place after the latter quit the government to serve in the Senate.

In charge of overseeing the new Ministry of Livestock Development will be Idi Mukhtar Maiha. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu was appointed Minister of State, and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, who takes Dr. Uzoka-Anite’s place as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, was another important appointment. for Foreign Affairs.
