According to Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), 10,000 recipients of the commission’s youth internship program will begin receiving a N50,000 monthly stipend in December. This initiative aims to empower young people in the Niger Delta region by providing them with valuable work experience and financial support. The NDDC is committed to investing in the development of youth in order to create a brighter future for the region.
During his inauguration as an Ambassador Extraordinaire of the University of Ibadan (UI) at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, Ogbuku made this announcement. The delegation was led by Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the university’s vice chancellor.
According to the NDDC head, more than 3 million young people have applied for the program since it was introduced in Port Harcourt on August 5 and are awaiting the release of the beneficiary list and the commencement of training.
The NDDC boss urged UI to increase its research activities, saying that in addition to the internship program, the NDDC had given Niger Delta youths more opportunities and hope through a novel program called Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement (HOPE). He said: “We are ready to sponsor research, partner with universities to produce life-saving vaccines and produce lasting solutions for medical and social problems.” He added that the honor bestowed upon him by the university indicated that Nigerians were starting to recognize NDDC’s accomplishments.
According to Ogbuku, the university’s award for him showed that Nigerians were starting to recognize the accomplishments of NDDC.
Prof. Adebowale praised Ogbuku in his remarks for leading the NDDC’s transformation projects and programs.
The NDDC’s Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Alabo Boma Iyaye, commended the university for honoring the commission and Ogbuku. “We felt it necessary to honor those who have had a significant impact on people’s lives in society,” he said, explaining why we chose Dr. Ogbuku as deserving of recognition as we marked the 75th anniversary of the University of Ibadan. Iyaye also highlighted the importance of recognizing individuals who have made a positive difference in society, emphasizing the value of Ogbuku’s contributions to the NDDC’s transformation projects. He expressed gratitude for the university’s acknowledgment of Ogbuku’s achievements and its role in promoting societal development.
