The Senior Special Assistant to the president on school feeding Dr Yetunde Adeniji has paid an official visit to the Governor of Zamfara Dauda Lawal.
During the visit, extensive discussion was held between herself and the Governor at his Abuja office.
She sought for the state government’s support for the school feeding programme in the state
The meeting avail the Senior Special Assistant to update the Governor on the activities executed under the programme and detailed the Governor on areas where she needed support much for the programme to succeed.
She added that in addition to the (883) public primary schools enrolled under the programme the recently constructed by the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal are to be integrated into the feeding programme to ensure that the programme has wider coverage.
The Program Manager of the NHGSFP in Zamfara state Aliyu Jibril Guraguri (Sardaunan Shinkafi) explained that the state was able to cover 57% of eligible schools in the past due to insecurity facing the state, 58% of food vendors recruited and only 63% eligible pupils were covered with the feeding services in the previous years.
He said his team members are working to ensure that the state recorded 100% coverage of all targets for both service providers and beneficiaries.
In his response the executive Governor Dauda Lawal expressed his appreciation to the SSA and her team for the visit and pledged to ensure the success of the program in the state through provision of necessary support and logistics.
He said he has already declared a state of emergency on education and expressed that, his administration is committed to working with all relevant Stakeholders in uplifting the standard of education in the state.
“We are committed to cooperating with the Federal Government, donor agencies and implementation partners on all interventions and initiatives aimed at providing meaningful development services to the people since the inception of my Government”.
