Kano State Emirate Council Law 2019 has passed through the first reading as it is billed for another amendment by the members of the state house of assembly.
The process to the amendment of the bill came to the front burner when the majority leader, Lawal Hussain Dala present a motion for the first reading on the floor of the state assembly.
He noted further that before the end of the week, the law will undergo second reading.
He stated further that the amendment to the bill is part of the promise made to the leader of the Kwankwasiya movement Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
There has been agitation by some concern groups that the NNPP led government should effect amendment to the Kano Emirate Council Bill.
It could be recall that in 2019 the administration of the former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje effected an amendment to the law.
The development paved the way for the unbundling of the Emirate Council of Kano into five comprising Kano, Rano, Karaye, Bichi and Gaya.
In the 2019 amendment, the Governor has been empowered to choose the new emir to be appointed as well as appoint the council of kingmakers.
The Governor is also empowered to select from within the Emirs the Chairman of the Kano State Council of Chiefs.
