Former Senate President in the 9th Assembly Ahmad Law and has stated that APC government headed by Muhammadu Buhari has not perform well from 2015-2019 due the consistent crises between the executive and legislative arms.
Sen. Ahmad Lawan who stated this during an interview with the BCC Hausa insisted that the party was even lucky to be re-elected by Nigerians in the 2019 general elections.
He insisted that four years of Buhari’s government wasted much of its time having permanent trouble with the legislative arm.
He criticized those calling the legislative arms as extension of the executive arms simply because they always allow the executive arms to do what will be in the best interest of the Nigerians.
He said those critics always prefer to be seeing legislators exchanging blows on the floor of the National Assembly before they can judge that the law makers are always against the executive arms.
He added further that, national Assembly has played a critical role in shaping and deepening democracy in Nigeria noting that even though it is not without it’s own shortcomings.
He remembered that when he came to the Natio al Assembly in 1999 it was a difficult time for them since the President of that was having a perception that the legislative arms should not autonomous of the executives.
He said as at that time the federal law makers always found it difficult to even acces to the basic facilities required to do their job unless they put a request on the executive arms.
He insisted that Nigerian democracy still have an issue especially on the local government elections and noted that the national Assembly and that of state has a key role to play to managing the situation for the better.
He added that one of the greatest achievements recorded by the Nigerian democracy is surviving twenty five years without military interruption.
