Suspected bandits armed with deadly weapons invaded Sakajiki village in Kaura Namoda Emirate in Zamfara state and killed scores of people.
The bandits according to confided sources arrived in the town since around 9:00pm on Thursday and continued with their operation till around 4:00am on Friday.
A resident of the area confirmed to this medium that the attack left (12) persons dead while they set ablaze (19) shops and several other houses including an edifice of a police outpost in the area.
He said the bandits set ablaze (7) vehicles, including (2) police patrol van belonging to the mobile police officers deployed to the area.
Another source said the (12) persons that are confirmed dead are those whose dead bodies were brought, while search for those not seen is still ongoing.
He added that the Police mobile operatives have tried their best to repel that attack, but the bandits over-powered them.
Zamfara Police spokesperson SP Shehu Muhammad confirmed the incident, noting that if not for the response of the police operatives the casualties would have been worse than what was recorded.
He assured that the Police Commissioner has already deployed additional squad for enforcement saying police in Zamfara would redouble effort to ensure that banditry is wiped out of the state.
