Today, Tuesday, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos Zone, is organizing a demonstration in favor of the five lecturer who were dismissed from Lagos State University, Ojo. It was reported that LASU had dismissed them without justification.
According to reports, the university administration dismissed a number of ASUU members in 2019. These people included the union’s chairman, Isaac Oyewumi; vice chairman, Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu; secretary, Dr. Tony Dansu; assistant secretary, Adeolu Oluwaseyi Oyekan; and treasurer, Oluwakemi Aboderin-Shonibare.
The lecturers were dismissed, according to the institution, for allegedly removing, keeping, distributing, or publishing official secret documents without authorization.
Previous reports, however, showed that the academics in question had denied the accusations.
The demonstration is aimed at drawing attention to the unfair treatment of the lecturers and demanding their reinstatement. The ASUU hopes to bring awareness to the issue and pressure LASU to reconsider their decision.
The rally will start at 10 in this morning.
