A chieftain of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Sani Abdullahi Wamban Shinkafi has charged journalists and other social media handlers to desist from spreading fake news as it is capable of endangering national security.

Wamban Shinkafi who made the call while hosting media practitioners and other stakeholders for a Ramadan breakfast said the call become necessary in order to avoid jeopardizing the effort of the government of fighting banditry and other forms of insecurity in the country.

He specifically noted that writing and spreading fake news can lead to serious stand-off between the government and citizens and cause a breach of law and order.

He therefore appealed to journalists and other social media handlers to always cross-check and verify their stories before going for publication to ensure that only accurate information is passed.

He also appealed to journalists and other social media handlers to use the influence of their job to assist the government in curbing crimes and other criminal activities especially banditry so that relative peace can be restored.

He insisted that, Zamfara state is still peaceful compared to what is obtainable at Kaduna, Kano and other states in the North and therefore commended the Governor of Zamfara for his giant effort in restoring peace in the state.

He lamented that the recent scenario involving the district head of Badarawa in his Shinkafi country home was a clear indicator that some bad elements within the circle of state are sabotaging the effort of the government in fighting banditry and criminality.
