People from six communities in Danmusa local government area of Katsina state said they have been faced with serious armed bandit threats.
They claimed that, the bandits group had enforced a levy of N10M on the people of these communities.
This is different from series of attacks launched against the communities by these same groups of armed bandits.
The bandits have also abducted scores of people and demanded for the payment of ransom
They have also rustled unquantified number of livestock and valuable properties of the people.
A source from one of these villages stated that there are over (20) people that were abducted and currently languishing in the bandit’s camps.
The bandits had now moved steps ahead to stop the locals from going to their respective farms to harvest their farm products.
“We don’t sleep at night and in the broad-day light you cannot access your farms due to the bandit’s heinous attacks. Life has really become hard”.
“Married persons are to contribute N21,500 each for whole sum contribution to the bandits”
The source added that almost every day bandits would launch one kind of molestation against our community or the other.
Katsina state commissioner for security Dr. Nasir Muazu told BBC Hausa service that sometimes back the bandits had encounter with the military forces where they suffered and even lost some of their motorcycles in the encounter and that triggered the bandits to placed their anger on these communities.
He said the development in this part of Katsina may be as a result of reprisal by the bandits.
But he said Katsina state government has developed the strategic options where it normally makes arrangements for the joint security operatives to escort farmers to go and harvest their farm products.
The arrangement which is to last for (30) days according to the commissioner was done in the back when farmers were escorted to go and plant their crops.
