Bandits in their hundreds allegedly invaded five communities of Bidda, Unguwar Rogo,Kajera, Karda, Magazawa in Chafe local government area of Zamfara State living an estimate of 15 people dead and dozens of houses and other economic structures ablaze.
According to some sources, on the 15th of May 2020, seven Fulani herdsmen were moving with their cattle from Daza on their way to Kunchin Kalgo but were intercepted by members of the organized vigilante Anguwar Rogo village along Chafe axis of Zamfara state. Though despite resistance, five out of the seven intercepted Fulani herdsmen managed to escape and report the incident to Bilbis divisional police outpost.
On hearing the news, the district head of Bilbis in Chafe local government reported the matter to the divisional police officer in Chafe who went to Anguwar Rogo to get the two remaining Fulani herdsmen released to police for investigation but the organized vigilante refused to release the Fulani herdsmen and even attempted to institute a mob action against the police officers.
After a failed effort by the police to get the victims released, our source revealed that, the Fulani herdsmen were later killed by the members of the organized vigilante.
The source added that, few days after, the remaining five Fulani herdsmen mobilized and carried out reprisal attacks on Bidda, Unguwar Rogo and neighboring, Kajere, Karda and Magazawa.
One of the survivors Malama Halima in an interview with thunder blowers news medium on phone, narrated how she and other hundreds of people fled their towns and took refuge at Magami, Wanke, Kucheri and Bilbis.
She noted that, the gunmen were armed with dangerous weapons and on arrival they shot at anybody sighted and the sound of the gunshots scared people who deserted all the five villages that very night.
Confirming the incident, Zamfara State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Shehu Muhammad described what happened as a reprisal attack, saying the command has been warning people especially members of the organized vigilante to desist from taking law in to their hands and always report cases of criminal nature to the police for action.
On the security situation in the affected areas, SP Shehu Muhammad explained that, the State Police Commissioner, CP Usman Nagogo has already mobilized armed police men to take charge of the security of the area and called on the residents to come back home and continue with their normal activities.
