Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Bala Mustapha, has ordered the unsealing of the secretariats of 23 local government areas in the state, following a directive from Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The decision was in compliance with the IGP’s orders.
The unsealing comes just 24 hours after Governor Siminalayi Fubara swore in newly elected chairmen from local government elections.
The 23 LGA headquarters were sealed in July amid a crisis following the controversial tenure extension of former chairmen.
The command emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to neutrality and democratic institutions.
The Nigeria Police Force has withdrawn all police personnel stationed in Rivers State due to political developments.
The decision, made by Commissioner Bala Mustapha, reflects the force neutrality and commitment to maintaining democratic institutions.
The police will only be redeployed in case of a crisis or law and order breakdown, with emergency measures swiftly implemented to restore normalcy.
