Akintunde Armstrong, the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, has refuted claims that he was pressuring candidates for council seats in Iperu Wards 3 and 5 of the state’s Ikenne Local Government Area

Armstrong has further denied ever having stated that he would use an astounding $80,000 to purchase the two wards over so that his two loyalists would select the councilorship tickets for the two Wards.

“The ranting of rudderless opposition to tarnish my image, misinform the public, and score cheap political points” is how he best put all of them.

The politician from Iperu Remo made this revelation on Friday in a statement provided by Oluseun Joshua, his media assistant. This was in response to a report that claimed he had boasted of using money and power to force his two loyalists, Olaleye Babatunde and Osularu Muyiwa, to run for the party’s councilorship in the state’s local government elections on November 16.

Armstrong, a property merchant, has denied allegations that he boasted that even the governor, Dapo Abiodun, could not stop him from implementing the alleged imposition. Armstrong criticized these allegations as baseless, unfounded, and idle talk from the opposition, stating that he is shocked and surprised by the falsehoods being spread by some opposition elements.

“In this dire economic climate, how could someone in his right mind be bragging about having spent an incredible $80,000—which is undoubtedly less than N120 million—to compel candidates for councilorships? It’s just lies from the depths of hell and pure foolishness.

They also said, “Isn’t it the height of stupidity that I bragged that not even the governor could stop me? My mentor and leader is His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun. He is the head of the party, and I follow him everywhere he goes. Therefore, there is no reality to their nonsense and attempts to discredit me in front of the governor.

The property merchant, has pledged his loyalty to the Governor and the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda, pledging to support the party in producing the right candidates and helping the ruling party achieve a landslide victory in the upcoming November 16 local government elections. He claims the opposition video was circulating a fund intended to further support and empower party members, similar to the group’s efforts since 2019.
