Boats accident had resulted to the death of close to (1000) people in Nigeria in three years.
According to statistics by Daily Trust newspaper, (936) people died in several boat accidents across Nigeria.
President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has already directed that an investigation be conducted to ascertain the causes of frequent boat accidents in the country.
The report indicates that availability of dusts and other unwanted particles in the major rivers and streams is among the factors responsible for the frequent occurrence of boat accidents in Nigeria.
Use of old age boots as well as overloading of both goods and passengers are also among the factors responsible for the tragedy according to the report.
The report further indicated that the majority of the business people as well as farmers in the rural areas relied heavily on the use of these boats as means of transport on the daily basis.
Some recent boat crashes experienced include the one that occurred on September 4th 2024 involving people of Mayo Ine and Mayo Belwa of Adamawa state where the crash resulted in the death of two persons.
Four days after another boat crash occurred involving people of Rugange community in Adamawa state where (15) out of the (23) passages on the trip died.
Three days after, another boat crash occurred in Mokwa community of Niger state where (30) people, mostly farmers, died in the boot mishaps.
Then the recent one involving over (100) people in Gummi local government were over (64) people were killed in a boat crash that occurred.
