The former Secretary of the committee set up to find solution to armed banditry in Zamfara Shehu Maishanu Gulubba had insisted that if government is serious, it can easily deploy the use of drone technology to fight armed banditry in the Zamfara state and North-West by extension.
Mr Gulubba who gave the suggestion at a TV show of Thunder Blowers, an online news medium said government of Nigeria does not need to be told that it requires to use of drone technology to fight the violent bandits.
He said in the 21st century government of Nigerian must desist from manual way of fighting the bandits; hence drone technology can easily be deployed to map the location of the bandits and deal with them easily.
He said to secure Gusau-Funtua highway, all that government need to do is to provide armor vehicles at strategic locations in the highway and use drone technology to go after the bandits.
“You can’t imagine Nigerian government sacrificing its potential military personnel in fighting the bandits manually using AK 47 while the bandits are using more sophisticated weapons that are more deadly than that of the military”.
The top military hierarchy knew very well how to end this crisis if they want to do it. They don’t need to be told what to do to manage the banditry crisis in the entire North-West, but because there is no political will we are still battling with the banditry problem”.
He further explained that corruption need to be fought, especially in making sure that funds that are meant for security votes are not diverted.
