In an attempt to contest the election results of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was elected governor on September 21, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Peoples Movement (APM), All Peoples Party (APP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP) have filed petitions at the Edo State election petitions tribunal. The opposition parties are alleging irregularities and electoral malpractices during the election and are seeking to have the results overturned. They are also calling for a rerun of the election to ensure a free and fair process.
Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the PDP’s Edo Chairman, announced yesterday at a press conference in Benin that Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the party’s candidate for governor, had submitted a plea to the tribunal and that the legal procedure to recover the PDP’s purportedly stolen mandate was proceeding as planned.
Aziegbemi stated that the APC did not win the Edo governorship election due to the compromised Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He assured that the journey to reclaim their mandate has begun and that their mandate will be returned. He dismissed allegations that PDP members disrupted the inspection of electoral materials at INEC’s Edo headquarters, stating that the court granted them an enrolled order to inspect and that the disruption was not in their interest.
We managed to take the necessary action despite INEC’s weak attempt to refuse our request for Certified True Copies (CTC) of all the electoral documents.
A 24-member transition team has been formed by the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to assist the transition committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Jarret Tenebe, the APC’s Edo Chairman, informed Governor Obaseki of this yesterday in a letter.
“I write to acknowledge receipt of your letter asking the APC and the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to start the transition team formation process so that they can work with you,” he stated.
We want to collaborate productively and successfully with our 24-member committee, chaired by Dr. Pius Odubu, to have insightful conversations that will result in a smooth transition process.
Dr. Odubu, Pastor Osagie Ize-lyamu, Andrew Enwanta, Dr. Washington Osifo, Nosa Adams, Omosede Igbinedion, Paul Ohonbamu, Edo Omorogieva, Ernest Umakhihe, Taiwo Akerele, and Godwin Eshieshie make up the APC transition committee.
Additional individuals include Matthew Egbadon, Dr. Tony Ikpasaja, Felix Akhabue, Ohio Ezomo, Gani Audu, Dr. Aminu Imafidon, Prof. Oyaziwo Aluede, Prof. Eunice Omonzejie, and Drs. Frank Omoh and Tony Ikpasaja. The diverse expertise and experience of these individuals will ensure that all aspects of the transition process are thoroughly examined and addressed. Their commitment to a successful transition for the benefit of all Edo State residents is evident in their dedication to this important task.
