Nigeria’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have captured 10 suspects in Taraba State, including two kidnapping informants and eight Boko Haram militants. The arrests were made after a well-planned operation at Tukura Abdul-Kareem’s home in Sunkani Ward, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area, on September 29, 2024. Captain Olubodunde Oni, acting assistant director of Army Public Relations, announced the news.
Abdul-Kareem and seven other people were captured during the raid, according to Oni.
The accused admitted to being Boko Haram members. It is said that they traveled from various regions of the nation to join the terror group.
“Investigations revealed that the suspects intended to set up a sleeper cell in Taraba, with the purpose of carrying out IED attacks against civilians and vital infrastructure,” the statement said.
Along with his brother Adamu Abdul-Kareem, who is still at large, Abdul-Kareem admitted to participating in Boko Haram activities, according to the army spokeswoman.
Nine cell phones, identity cards, and illegal substances thought to be marijuana and other hard drugs were among the items found on the suspects.
Two ladies, Patience Avadoo Tersoo and Joy Nguemo Emmanuel, were taken into custody by soldiers stationed in Chachanji hamlet, Takum Local Government Area, on September 30, 2024, during a separate operation.
The women were allegedly giving vital information to Anyogo’s criminal network. Anyogo is a well-known kidnapper. They are thought to be his wife and sister.
Soldiers found a cell phone, a motorcycle, and a calabash from the suspects during the operation.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism and promptness in foiling a terror plan and preserving civilian lives in the state.
Additionally, he commended the Taraba inhabitants for their collaboration and valuable intelligence, adding that their continuing assistance is crucial to keeping peace and security.
“Together, we shall persist in guaranteeing a more secure and safe Taraba and Nigeria in its entirety,” stated Uwa. He emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining security and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Uwa also reassured the residents that the military will continue to work tirelessly to protect them from any threats.
