EIGHT SECURITY OPERATIVES KILLED IN A FIRE EXCHANGE WITH BANDITS IN ZAMFARA

Not fewer than eight security operatives comprising five police men and three military soldiers were killed in a deadly ambush along Gusau-Funtua highway on Thursday.

The military operatives were said to have been part of the convoy of a construction company Setraco who are working on the reconstruction of Gusau-Zaria highway.

While the police officers mostly members counterterrorism unit were part of those meaning a checkpoint in between Kwatarkwashi and Tazane village before Tsafe.

A source at the scene of the incident informed this medium that the suspects laid ambush at the convoy of a senior site engineer of the construction company and opened fire on their vehicles.

He said though the security forces responded by firing at the bandits, they lost eight personal in the operation.

The source added that a significant number of the bandits were also killed, even though they carried away the corpses from the scene.

The dead bodies of the security forces were evacuated to Gusau for funeral.

The response by the security agencies surely prevented further civilian casualties as only of the civilian commuters secured injury as a result of stray bullet.

The reinforcement by the security forces after two hours of fire exchange resulted in clearing the highway for the commuters to proceed with their trip.
