The Israeli-Hezbollah confrontation has prompted the Federal Government to begin preparing to evacuate Nigerians living in Lebanon back to Nigeria, according to a statement released on Friday in Abuja by Eche Abu-Obe, the ministry’s spokesperson. The decision to evacuate Nigerian citizens from Lebanon comes amidst rising tensions in the region and concerns for their safety. The Federal Government is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure a smooth and timely evacuation process.
The ministry said, “The government has started preparations for the evacuation of Nigerians in Lebanon to Nigeria due to the worsening circumstances in Lebanon over the Israel-Hezbollah conflict. The Nigerian government has taken action to guarantee the security and well-being of its citizens living in the nation. The Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon regularly sent out safety instructions and recommendations to the Nigerian community. In August, the Embassy actively encouraged its fellow citizens to think about voluntary evacuation while commercial flights were still an option. In coordination with the leadership of the Nigerian community, Nigerian citizens residing in the southern region of Lebanon have also been evacuated to Beirut and other safer locations.
The spokesperson stated that since the start of the conflict, no Nigerian has lost their life, and it was now important to bring this up.
The ministry wants to give Nigerians peace of mind by saying that the Federal Government is still dedicated to ensuring their safety and protection and is actively interacting with pertinent parties. The government is getting ready to send them back home, according to Abu-Obe.
