A youths group, the Coalition of Youths Representatives, on Monday, visited the former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, in Abuja to discuss for effective youth inclusion in the new coalition ahead of the 2027 election

The group, which is a multi-party coalition of youths from across the country, presented a document with a set of recommendations on how the ongoing Atiku led Coalition of opposition political parties can accommodate Nigerian Youths and allow them better chance of political inclusivity.
Leader of the group AbdulAziz Akinsanya from Lagos said it is throwing its weight behind the ongoing plans for a mega political coalition because it represents the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians to reclaim and rebuild their country through a solid democratic process.

According to the group, it is a disservice for the youth not to support the ongoing efforts by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir el-Rufai, Rotimi Ameachi and other political leaders, for a better country noting that Nigeria needs a holistic reversal of things for the better.

The recommendations of the coalition take into account regional and gender balance, in addition to seeking inclusiveness for persons with disabilities as well as increase percentage for youth and women above 40%.

The group expressed hope that with Atiku, the youths are guaranteed 40% and more inclusion in governance.

Responding, Atiku said his commitment to ensuring youth inclusion in governance has remained unwavering noting that it has been a project he perused for over forty years of democratic struggle.

“The youths have continued to remain the most vulnerable, he added”.

“You have to take on more challenges in our democratic processes and be daring enough to get the kind of change you desire. We can work together”.

“Being united and working hard will guarantee you achieve your objectives. You are the future of this country. Don’t take it for granted,” he counselled.

“I will continue to support and guide you…I am still here because of you. I wasn’t struggling for myself, and I am still not satisfied with the state of the nation,” he added.

This statement was signed by Atiku media house in Abuja on Monday the 16th day of June 2025.
