Some suspected bandits armed with deadly weapons have invaded Kangon Farun Mana and Yardoka villages in Magami district of Gusau local government and killed over fourty people mostly members of the vigilante groups.

An eyewitness who spoke to this medium said the gunmen invaded the communities at the early hours of Wednesday and started shooting sporadically.

He said most of the people killed are members of the vigilante groups (Yansakai) who attempted to repel the attack by the invaders.

“One of those killed by the bandits is a close friend of mine we had spoken with him for some minutes yesterday but only for me to be told that he was killed by the bandits” the source added.

In a related development, another set of gunmen have also invaded Bayan Banki, Gobirawa and Biyabiki communities in Tsafe local government area of the state.

During the attack the eyewitness said they have succeeded in killing one person at Gobirawa  and left two others wounded at Bayan Banki.

The source said those killed and wounded were initially targeted by the bandits and they were members of the vigilante groups (Yan Sakai).

This development arises less than 24 hours after members of the vigilante groups at Gidan Zuma repelled another attack by some suspected bandits and killed two of their members on Monday.

Another eyewitness who spoke to this medium said, earlier than the Monday’s encounter the bandits had attempted to invade the same Gidan Zuma but they were resisted by the members of the vigilante where they lost five of their members.

Zamfara State Police Command says it has actually received a distress calls at the apex of the attack in Magami but could not respond and repel the attack due to the unaccessibility of the area.

The spokes person of the command SP Shehu Muhammad said the location where the incident occurred does not have cellular network coverage making communication very difficult to the police operative for quick response.

He further said, “PMF 19 Contingent attached to Puff Adder II that are based in Magami responded to the locations on foot with a view to forestalling  further attacks on the neighbouring communities and their response is being awaited to ascertain the level of damage done by the assailants”.
