On Saturday, the 12th of October 2024 the commandant General of Zamfara Community Protection Guards Bridg General Lawal B. Muhammad retired was fired several gunshots by some suspected armed bandits along Gusau-Funtua road.
The incident according to eyewitness occurred around Kucheri a distance of less than (30) kilometers from Tsafe local government.
The Commandant General was returning to Zamfara from Kaduna when he met deadly bandits conducting operations along the road.
Having detected his vehicle with retinue of community Guards armed with weapons the bandits opened fire on his convoy.
He was shot on both his legs, and many other passengers cut off in the operations also suffered various degrees of injury emanating from the multiple gunshots.
The Commandant General also suffered serious wound on his leg emanating from the gunshots fired on his two legs.
He was admitted at the Federal Medical Center Gusau where the state Governor visited him to assess his condition.
He was later referred to a hospital in Kano for advance medical consideration.
Other passengers who were travelling along the road when the incident happened also suffered various gunshots and sustained injuries.
The attack on the CPG Commander came barely less than a week after about (7) operatives of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards based in Tsafe were ambushed and killed by some armed bandits.
The Tsafe incident also occurred less than (24) hours after (9) members of Katsina Community Watch were ambushed and killed by another sets of armed bandits in between Zamfara border town of Yankara and Sheme same Gusau-Funtua highway.
Governor Dauda Lawal has already paid sympathy visit to the Emir of Tsafe over the unfortunate incident leading to the murder of (7) members of the community protection guards in the area.
He promised to take charge of welfare and educational responsibilities of the families of the slain CPG operatives and vow not surrender to the bandit threats.
