Over 7000 supporters of All Progressive Congress APC in Gummi local government area of Zamfara State defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
Two hundred and six other members of National Rescue Movement NRM from same Gummi area have also defected to the ruling PDP.
Hajiya Aishatu Maradun stood in for the State PDP Chairman, and she was joined by the member Federal House of Representatives Eng. Sulaiman Gummi, Gummi local government council Sole Administrator alongside other prominent politicians from the area in receiving the decampees.
They commended the defectors for what they described as a wise decision in joining PDP noting that they will be carried along in building the party to a greater level.
The defectors who took time to explained their reasons for the defection said they were impressed with the style of leadership of Governor Bello Matawalle especially as it relates to restoration of peace and institutionalization of good governance in the state.
