INEC: This new technology is expected to streamline the accreditation process and enhance the overall efficiency of the election, ultimately leading to more accurate and timely results.
Over 5,000 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machines will be used for the September 21, 2024, Edo State gubernatorial election, according to plans released by the Independent National Electoral Commission
Speaking on the condition of anonymity on Thursday, a senior INEC official stated that the commission is preparing to guarantee a seamless and effective electoral process throughout the state’s 211 collation centers and 4,519 polling places.
The state collation center in Benin City, eighteen local government centers, and 192 ward centers are among these centers.
The official declared, “More than 5,000 BVAS devices will be deployed for the Edo State governorship election.”
A simulated voter accreditation in Edo State was set for September 10, 2024 by INEC on April 27, 2024 to test the functionality of the BVAS devices and ensure a smooth voting process on election day. This strategic move aims to identify and address any potential issues ahead of time to prevent disruptions during the actual election.
The purpose of the exercise is to test the electronic result upload procedure to the INEC Result Viewing portal and the deployment of BVAS.
The commission also disclosed that the BVAS machines that were scheduled to be used on election day had been installed and configured.
