Bashir Ado, the Special Adviser on Salary and Pensions for Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, has been suspended due to an alleged premature declaration regarding the minimum wage of N70,000. The suspension was announced by the state government pending an investigation into the matter. Ado’s premature declaration has caused confusion and concern among government officials and employees in Jigawa State.

Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary of the State Government, made this announcement on Saturday in Dutse.

According to Mr. Ibrahim, a statement circulating in some media outlets claiming that the governor had authorized N70,000 as the new minimum salary for workers in the state was taken seriously by the administration.

“This seems premature and embarrassing, as the government-appointed committee led by the Head of the State Civil Service to provide guidance on the right salary has not yet finished its work and turned in a report,” Mr. Ibrahim stated.

He explained that as a result of the events, the governor had authorized Mr. Ado’s immediate suspension, pending the completion of the findings of a committee that was appointed by the state’s attorney general and commissioner of justice, Bello Abdulkadir.

The SSG further stated that the committee would look into the statement’s true source, content, and motivation. The committee was given a two-week period to produce its findings.

Mr. Ibrahim nominated Muhammad Yahaya, Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Service Matters, office of the SSG, and Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad, Commissioner for Health, as well as Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, as members of the committee.
