The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has become divided as a result of yesterday’s ward congresses; two factions are at odds over the exercise’s legitimacy and execution.
The party’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, Sadiq Aminu Wali, leads a faction that has rejected the outcomes of congresses held by Ibrahim Shekarau and Bello Hayatu Gwarzo.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Muhaminnah Bako Lamido, the Wali faction charged that the Shekarau-Hayatu Gwarzo group was behind a procedure that was not inclusive or transparent.
The statement read, “We note with deep concern the deliberate exclusion of legitimate party members and key stakeholders in the run-up to the congresses, as well as several irregularities observed during the exercise.”
The Wali group said that their attempts to resolve these issues with the top party organs were rejected and criticized the procedural flaws and disrespect for party norms. The Wali faction called on the PDP national leadership to step in right away in order to resolve the alleged irregularities and stop further division. They emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles within the party and ensuring that all members are treated fairly. The Wali faction also expressed their willingness to work with the national leadership to address these concerns and move forward in a united manner.
