A seven-member disciplinary standing committee has been established by the Labour Party to rein in the excesses of its members who refuse to follow instructions and adhere to the party’s constitution.
Its national chairman, Julius Abure, informed the media in Abuja on Tuesday that the choice was made as part of a resolution made at the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.
“Any member who is not willing to follow instructions and adhere to the party’s constitution will face discipline from the national leadership without hesitation,” stated Mr. Abure.
He named Ayo Olorunfemi, Dudu Manuga, the national women’s leader, Clement Ojukwu, the deputy national chairman, and Kehinde Edun, the national legal counsel, as members of the disciplinary committee.
The others are Umar Ibrahim, national secretary, who serves as the committee secretary; Callistus Ihejiagwa, chairman of the Imo chapter; and Raji Mohammed, chairman of the Kano State chapter.
As LP stands for uplifting the disadvantaged, Mr. Abure invited party members to collaborate in this endeavor.
Speaking further, he explained that the communiqué was sent out to read the NWC’s decision following a meeting with Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State.
He claimed that on the pretext that the executives’ terms had ended, the governor announced his plan to call a meeting of the NEC on Saturday, August 31, in order to dissolve the executive councils of the national, state, municipal, and ward governments.
