Members of the Nigerian Labour Unions are patiently awaiting the response of the President Bola Ahmad Tinubu as the deadline for negotiations on new minimum wage ends Tuesday.

The labour unions comprising the Nigerian Labour Congress, and Trade Union Congress had forwarded a downward review figure of N250, 000 as their proposed figure for the minimum wage to be paid by all the tiers of the governments.

According to another source, Federal Government delegations in the negotiations had presented a proposal of N65, 000 for the new minimum wage to the members of the unions.

One of the TUC leaders, Comr. Nuhu Toro told Radio France International that they are waiting for the response of the President Bola Ahmad Tinubu since the position of the two labour unions had been forwarded to him by the Chairman of the tripartite committee.

Another independent source has also claimed that state Governors had insisted that they cannot afford a figure that is above N60, 000 as new minimum wage.

Stakeholders expressed fear if after the end of today a final decision has not been reached, the labour unions may continue with their suspended indefinite strike action which they recalled last week.
