The Chairman of Zamfara State Board of Internal Revenue Ali Akilu Dama has declared that, not more than (10) out of over (400) registered private school operators in Zamfara are paying their tax to the state government.

The Chairman who made the declaration when he featured on Thunder Blowers TV show Sunday said, the attitude of private school operators of not paying their tax to the state government is badly affecting the revenue generation capacity of the state.

He added that, during one of his interaction with the leadership of the private school operators, he asked whether if they usually pay their staff during holidays as it would signify their continued payment of PAYE, the leadership could not answer him in the affirmative.

He lamented that the recent measures instituted by the state government which led to the closure of all schools in Zamfara has no doubt affected the strength of IGR collection of the state, since the owners of private schools have for instance confessed to him that they can not withstand the payment of salary to their employees especially during this shut down period.

He further said, petrol station owners also fall part of those who are declining demand notice for the payment of tax to the state government, noting that unless the attitude of the people toward payment of tax has been changed, the state would continue to suffer from low IGR collection.
