Five individuals have been taken into custody by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Plateau command in connection with the purported diversion of two trucks carrying 70 metric tonnes of Indorama fertilisers. On Monday in Jos, police spokeswoman ASC Ruth Rimvyok revealed this to the media. According to Ms. Rimvyok, an intelligence report led to the arrest of suspects in the Jos South LGA’s Mararaban Jama’a neighbourhood. She clarified that the fertilisers intended for Lagos and Oyo were instead transferred to Bauchi, according to the allocation papers. “On August 21 and 23, respectively, our men rapidly responded to intelligence reports from our headquarters and the National Security Adviser’s office to detain these five suspects.

According to her, two trucks carrying 35 metric tonnes of government Indorama fertiliser each, intended for Oyo and Lagos states but accidentally diverted to Bauchi state, were apprehended with the accused.

Ms. Rimvyok stated that enquiries were still in progress to identify the individuals responsible for the products’ diversion. However, Abubakar Mohammed, one of the accused, insisted they were asked to transport the fertiliser to Bauchi and denied diverting the products.
