The National Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has approved July 12th, 2025, for the election of new executive officers for Zamfara State.
The approval is contained in a letter sent to the Credentials Committee by the National Secretary, addressed to the Chairman/Secretary of the Credentials Committee.
According to the letter, the National Secretariat has, in accordance with the union constitution’s Article 3 on membership, Article 4a on finance, and Article 7b, reaffirmed the clearance process by the Zamfara Council’s Credentials Committee.
“The National Secretariat commends the Credentials Committee for the efforts made thus far in fulfilling their mandate. Naturally, we understand that the nature of competitive electoral processes elicits great vigor and passion, which can be positive if properly deployed.”
“We praise members of the Zamfara Council for maintaining relative decorum and decency in the election process.”
“We urge all members to carry this commendable attitude forward for the good of the union. Please note that Saturday, the 12th of July, 2025, is hereby approved for the State Council Election,” the letter reads.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Comrade Dahiru Samaila Mafara, urged the approved candidates to run their campaigns with civility and avoid using offensive language that could cause violence and damage their reputation.
