A study by Oxford Policy Management cited by The Daily Trust, a Nigerian-based newspaper, indicated that a total of (330) students from three local government areas of Katsina State were abducted by bandits between 2020-2025.

These three local governments were Batsari, Faskari, and Kankara local government areas

The statistics also show that within the same period under review , (14) school teachers from these local governments were also kidnapped , out of which (5) were killed. ,

The most infamous case was the 2020 Kankara abduction where over 200 pupils were kidnapped.

This ugly development posed by armed banditry has caused a serious setback to the educational development of Katsina state.

So far , according to the report by the Nigerian based newspaper Daily Trust , there are (52) schools that were forcefully closed in Katsina due to armed bandit activities.

As it stands , Katsina has a total of (1.4M) of school children , representing a total of 45.9 per cent of its school aged.

Recently , at a book launch in Jibiya, Katsina Governor Dikko Rada admitted that banditry has caused the state a serious economic and educational set back.

The state has so far allowed for community driven peace initiatives with the bandits which is yielding some results especially in local government like Jibiya, Batsari and Kurfi local government areas of the state.
