A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress in Zamfara state Sani Abdullahi Wamban Shinkafi has declared that the scarcity of naira has drastically reduced corruption in the Nigerian electoral process.

Wamban Shinkafi who stated this during a Press Conference in Gusau on Monday stated that what transpired during the conduct of the presidential and national assembly polls conducted on the 25th of February 2023 is a clear reflection of the fact that technology is adding value to the Nigerian electoral process.

Wambai added that the naira scarcity during the conduct of last Saturday’s election has empowered the Nigerian voters to vote according to their conscience; hence the money is not there for vote buying.

“There are people who spent up to N2M and N3M to buy the voters in their poling units, but at the end of the day, they collected the money and vote according to their conscience” Wambai added.

He commended the INEC Chairman for standing firm to ensure that the use of technology in the Nigeria’s voting process has come to stay, noting that now votes cast have to tally with the records of voters accredited by the VIVAS.

He urged the INEC Chairman, whom he described as someone who is honest and trustworthy to remain resolute in his ongoing electoral reforms.
