Thirty one states of Nigeria are likely to suffer serious flooding in 2024 according to NEMA Zonal Coordinator Mr. Engine Nyelong.

Again about 144 local governments are likely going to fall victims of the NIMET prediction on flooding.

Mr. Engine describes the effects of climate change, blockage of drainages, construction on the waterways among other factors as responsible for the flooding prediction.

According to him the NEMA’a warning alarm was build upon the report issued by the Nigerian Metrological Agency over prediction of possible flooding.

He stated that NEMA has written letters of notifications to various states simply to get them prepared.

He also stated that his agency has embarked on serious enlightenment campaign aimed alerting the people on the looming danger ahead.

He said his agency is into house to house campaign and reaching out to people in the mosque, churches and market places to sensitize them.

Since the commencement of this year’s rainy season, states in Northern Nigeria including Jigawa, To be and Niger had since started drainage clearance to avert the danger of flooding.

Some of these states are wary of the loses usually incurred during every flood disaster in their states.
