Yahaya Bello, the former governor, has agreed to discuss matters with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission about financial fraud charges. Bello conferred with his legal counsel, allies in politics, and family before making the choice. In order to guarantee due process, the former governor, who upholds the rule of law, has attempted to enforce his fundamental rights. Bello has been represented by his legal team at each hearing in the case, which has been heard by a competent court. Given that he has nothing to conceal or be afraid of, the former governor’s choice to clear his record is considered significant.
The former governor backs President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s efforts to steer Nigeria toward sustainable economic growth and endorses the nation’s anti-corruption campaign.
“His establishment of an anti-corruption mechanism to prevent graft and guarantee that the state’s resources benefit the people of Kogi state is documented as the first among governors to do so.”
The director clarified that Mr. Bello was escorted to the EFCC headquarters by prominent Nigerians.
He stated, “We hope that the Commission will respect his fundamental rights as a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and be as professional as necessary.”
He promised to reveal further information later on his interactions with the agents of the anti-graft agency.
The anti-graft agency has been suing the former governor of Kogi in court for his invitation and the purported financial embezzlement that has been leveled against him.
The director also mentioned that Mr. Bello is fully cooperating with the EFCC’s investigation and is confident in his innocence. He expressed hope that the legal process will be fair and transparent.
