The All Progressive Congress (APC) has raised concern that up to this moment the state Independent Electoral Commission for Zamfara is yet to contact the party concerning the forth-coming local government polls.
The party’s publicity secretary Malam Yusuf Idris who stated this in an exclusive interview with Thunder Blowers on Sunday explained that ZASIEC and the PDP had failed to contact but the APC and other political parties concerning the arrangement made for the election.
He stated that, in a normal procedure, ZASIEC need to summon all parties for a stakeholders meeting to agree on terms and modalities for the election.
Idris said the electoral law empowers that parties should be given adequate notice of at least three months before the election took place simply to allow them get prepared.
“We have to open the sales of forms, conduct screening of candidates, proceed with the party primaries and allow for the aggrieved persons to file appeal before the party can participate in the election”.
Mr Idris said their party was only issued a letter dated 17th February 2024 notifying them of the plan election while the time sets for the conduct of the election is too inadequate in line with the laid down electoral guidelines.
Idris said the party will meet at state executive Committee level to review the entire process and decide the next steps to take.
On whether they may likely take the path of litigation to stop the conduct of the election, Idris said the outcome of their planned meeting will determine that.
