A federal lawmaker from Zamfara State, Hon. Sulaiman Gummi, has accused the Gusau Local Government Council Chairman, Abubakar Imam, of destroying a ballot box during the ongoing Kaura Namoda bye-election.
While addressing journalists, Gummi alleged that the incident occurred in one of the polling units with registration number (002), describing the chairman’s actions as unbecoming of an elected official.
He accused the PDP of using state security outfits, such as the Community Protection Guards, to distract voters from choosing candidates of their own preference.
He alleged that in one of the polling units, operatives of the CPG assaulted an elderly woman who had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.
He added that Zamfara APC supporters are law-abiding citizens and that , as a party, they would continue to adhere to the law and pursue legitimate means to address electoral irregularities.
In a related development, the Birnin Magaji Council Chairman, Hon. Abdulhadi, has accused Zamfara APC supporters of bringing in armed political thugs to disrupt the election at Kasuwar Daji.
He alleged that the actions of the political thugs brought by the APC resulted in many legitimate voters being badly wounded.
He also claimed that the APC thugs almost overpowered the conventional security agents who were there to provide security for the electorate.
He stated that as a party, they have condemned the actions of the political thugs and promised to report the matter to the appropriate authorities for redress.
