Zamfara Circle has call for the removal of Zamfara state head of service over what they described as irresponsible a letter written by him denouncing the indigenship of the newly appointed Federal Permanent Secretary in the Federal Service.

In a letter signed by the Chairman of the circle Dr. Aminu Lawal Tsafe, the group states that the letter by the state head of service is a clear infringement on all her rights and privileges as indigene of the state.

The statement added “the letter, in item 4, also questioned her appointment because she is a clinical officer when out of the eight (8) Permanent Secretaries recently appointed by Mr. President, four (4) are Medical Doctors, in addition to about seven (7) Medical Doctors in the Federal Civil Service who are Permanent Secretaries, including the Head of the Federal Civil Service”.

The circle expressed regret that, Zamfara Head of Service could not understand how the federal system works and could not take necessary steps to verify the facts.

The circle expressed wonder how the state Governor hosted Dr. Maryam after said letter was issued by the State Head of Service on behalf of the state government describing the situation as confusing.

“Yesterday, the Zamfara State Governor hosted Dr. Maryam and after the meeting, the State Government issued a press release congratulating her on her appointment and pledged to support her in her new role”.

“The conflicting communications have raised many questions over how the Zamfara State Government is being run and also exposed some incompetence in decisions being taken at the highest levels in the state”.

“The Circle would want to believe that, in matters of procedure, there is no way high-level communication from the state government to the Federal Government would happen without the knowledge or consent of the Executive Governor”.

“The Circle, therefore, calls on the Governor to review his leadership decisions if he authorized the Zamfara State Head of Service, Mr. Ahmad Aliyu Liman, to write the letter as stated in item 5 of the letter which reads”

The statement reads “It is against this background, that I am therefore directed to appeal to the collective conscience of the good offices of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and indeed all critical stakeholders to drop the candidacy of Maryam Ibrahim Aliyu or by whatever name called, for the post of a Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service in representation for the good people of Zamfara State so as to allow bona fide indigenes of Zamfara extraction in the Federal Civil Service to legally and positively compete for the post”.

“The Circle believes whatever motive that has instigated the State Government to write the letter has exposed the double standard, incompetence and questioned the integrity of the people running the state” the statement added.

“Mr Liman ought to have petitioned his principal first, Gov. Dauda for appointing non indigenes into various positions in his government. It portrays a lack of diligence, unprofessionalism, and abuse of processes”.

Dr. Tsafe added that the circle was contacted with the same allegations but was able to investigate and find all the allegations against Dr. Maryam to be untrue and therefore did not take any step to challenge the process of her appointment.

“It is therefore surprising that the state government could not make simple inquiries to verify the misinformation. The HoS could have put a simple call to the Tsafe Emirate to verify the information. The Circle believes that this mess is not caused by ignorance or patriotism, but a clear attempt to subvert a transparent process to favor vested interests”. The statement added.

“The letter has raised some fundamental issues which the Zamfara State Government must address. Hence, Zamfara Circle calls on the State Government to take the following actions”.

  1. The Zamfara State Government should disclose who directed the Zamfara Head of Service, Mr. Ahmad Aliyu Liman, to challenge the process of Dr. Maryam’s appointment as indicated in item 5 of the letter.
  2. In the event that the Executive Governor authorized Mr. Ahmad Aliyu Liman to write the letter, the Circle demands that the Governor should explain the reasons behind such a directive.
  3. If the Governor did not authorize the letter, the Circle demands the immediate removal of the Head of Service, take necessary action on all those involved.
  4. Issuance of a public apology to Dr. Maryam Ismail Keshinro.
  5. The Governor should further take all necessary actions to sanitize the Zamfara State Civil Service to mitigate future occurrences of similar actions. The State Government does not deserve to be run by incompetent hands.
