Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Mal. Mani Mumuni, led a significant state government delegation to meet with the management of Premier Seeds to discuss issues of mutual concern and to sign a bilateral agreement between the state and the company.
Accompanying the Deputy Governor were commissioners, senior directors, and other technical personnel from the state Ministry of Agriculture.
In his welcome address, the Managing Director of Premier Seed, Dr. Ibitoye Oyewale, welcomed the Deputy Governor and his entourage to the company’s corporate head office and briefed them on the company’s transformation journey.
He stated that the company started as Agri-seed in 1984 and later transformed into Premier Seed in 1994, with six departments focused on seed research, seed production and storage, internal quality control, marketing, and administration.
He explained that the company is primarily involved in the production and marketing of seedlings, either directly or through contact persons who serve as agents.
He noted that the company produces seeds for maize, soybeans, watermelon, onion, and wheat.
Zamfara State Deputy Governor Malam Mani, in his remarks, commended the management of Premier Seed, led by Olusegun Obasanjo, for the warm reception given to him and his entourage.
The purpose of the visit was to establish a strong partnership with the company in the areas of job creation and seed marketing to enhance agricultural development.
They also requested the allocation of land for setting up a state branch office to improve accessibility to their products, noting that Zamfara used to be the major consumer of Premier Seed products across the entire North West.
The team was later given a tour of the company’s facilities to assess the operations firsthand.
