Zamfara state chapter of All Progressives Congress has raised alarm that the state Resident Electoral Commissioner has allegedly held a meeting with the PDP officials and took a decision not make use of BVAS in the schedule re-run election holding on Thursday.
Malam Yusuf Idris the spokes person of the APC in Zamfara stated in a statement that the decision not to use the BVAS is to allow for easy way to manipulate the re-run election in favour of the PDP.
It could be recall that the Saturday Kaura Namoda state assembly bye election was declared inconclusive by the state returning officer Prof. Lawal Sa’ad and held that five poling units from Sakajiki and Kasuwar Daji wards are to held fresh election.
Estimate has shown that there are about (3000) votes to be contested in the re-run majorly between the PDP and APC in the re-run election coming on Thursday.
APC also alleged that the meeting concluded with the plan to deploy government house security personnel including police and DSS to perfect the rigging planned.
The statement said APC has already reported the Governor’s ADC and CSO for allegedly leading armed thugs to rig the last election in favour of the PDP.
“We also gathered that the REC received the sum of N250 million to perpetrate this act by compelling his staff against using the BVAS machine” the statement alleged.
“We therefore wish to most importantly call on the National Chairman of INEC to completely remove the current REC from the rerun election and send a neutral person to handle it using the BVAS which was never doubted by either the APC nor the PDP at the initial exercise”.
“The INEC should also investigate its REC’s corrupt participation in the matter like it did on persons of same position, who committed the same offence and were found guilty”.
“In view of the government house security agents’ involvement in the last Saturday’s bye-election, we want to appeal to the Commissioner of Police, the SDS and the NSCDC Commandant in the state to stamp their authority on their personnel by directing all those on posting to government house to remain at their duty posts and not to be seen anywhere near the rerun election venues when the exercise is holding”.
