The leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress in Zamfara State has met with officials of the state Board of Internal Revenue and indeed other stakeholders to discuss a way out over the lingering delay In the implementation of N30,000 minimum wages.
Chairman of the Board Ali Akilu Dama Bungudu who chaired the session at the ZBIRS headquarters on Wednesday appealed to the leadership of the labor union to allow the state a bit of time to be able to gather all options noting that, the state is still generating a very low IGR that cannot even augment the payment of monthly salary.
“ Up to this moment I am talking to you Zamfara state is not earning up to N500m on monthly basis, and you can see other demands awaiting the state. So, it is important you bear with the state and extend sometimes so that the lingering issue can be resolved”.
Chairman of the Nigeria Labor Congress who raised concern over lack of seriousness of the state government to be able to pay the new minimum wage said they have tried as much as possible to avoid such a circumstance where the national body must have to come into the matter.
He said, “for now the national body has wed into the matter and there is nothing we can do because whatever that is to be done including dialogue it has to be done with the National not state chapter of the NLC”.
An elder statesman Sarkin Fawa Malami and many other stakeholders that spoke during the meeting appealed to the NLC and indeed the state government to as a matter of public interest go back to the negotiating table and came up with an alternative option to resolve the indifferences instead of shutting down the state.
