ZMSG PAYS OVER 186M FOR 67 INDIGENES STUDYING AT SUDAN UNIVERSITY, REDUCES 70M DEBT TO ALHIKMA AND CRESCENT UNIVERSITIES

Bello Mohammed Matawallen has approved the release of 2020/2021 scholarship for Zamfara indigenes studying within and outside Nigerian universities.

According to the statement by the Executive Secretary of Zamfara State Scholarship Board the decision by Governor Bello Matawalle is in furtherance of his declaration of the state of emergency on education which he made at the beginning of his administration and the resolve of the state government to improve on science and technology related courses for indigent Zamfara state.

Under the 2020/2021 academic session, the Governor has approved the release of N186, 699, 600 as full payment for 67 Medical and Para-medical students currently going into their second year of studies in Sudan, another N24, 500,000 for 23 scholars in India and N56, 463, 440 for 92 students studying in Cyprus in addition to 19 students studying online from China institutions as they could not go there due to the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.

Similarly, the statement added that, after a fact finding visit to ascertain the level of indebtedness by the state specifically for students of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara state and Crescent University, Abeokuta in Ogun state which stood at over N200 million, the governor approved the release of part payment of N70 million

The Governor also approved N19 million comprises the payment of N500,000 each to 38 law school students for the 2019/2020 academic session.

Governor Matawalle has also approved the release of funds for the commencement of verification exercise for the Zamfara state students studying at various public higher institutions in Nigeria.

The statement said, after the data verification exercise the Governor would release their outstanding eight year’s bursaries including those not paid by the immediate past administration.

It could be recall that, the State Governor has released the sum of N460 million naira as tuition fee, accommodation and upkeep allowances for the 200 Zamfara indigents who are to study law, medicine, nursing and para-medicals courses.
