Zamfara State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam has stated that the administration of Dauda Lawal has cleared an inherited debt of over N90b out of a debt of about N117b.

Gajam, who stated this in an exclusive interview with Thunder Blowers Multimedia Services in Gusau on Saturday, insisted that it was unfortunate that the past administration of Bello Matawalle has left a debt that no one could explain what the money was used for.

“We have inherited a domestic debt of about N90b and added to the international debt, contract liabilities , the total of what Dauda Lawal inherited from his predecessor Bello Matawalle , was about N117b and most unfortunately , one cannot show visibly what these loans were used for.”

He said , at the inception of Dauda Lawal’s administration , the Governor mapped out strategies to ensure that the state had decided options to set Zamfara free of any debt and also went ahead to execute projects that have a direct bearing on the people of the state.

He further stated that despite settling the backlog of incurred debt, Governor Dauda Lawal also settled debt liabilities for WAEC/NECO and also that of gratuity to set the state free.

He denied the allegations that the state government under Governor Dauda only made projections for loans to be incurred but never applied for a dime since inception.
