Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal has vowed to achieve between 20 to 30% budgetary allocation for the education sector from now to 2027.
The Governor, who gave the commitment during a speech at the 3rd and 4th combined convocation of the Federal University, Gusau insisted that education is the only sustainable enabler that can guaranty sustainable social living among the people.
According to his spokesperson Sullivan Bala Idris, the Governor told the gathering that his administration has allocated a substantial amount of money in the 2024 appropriation budget and vows to do more to sustain the state of emergency he has declared for the education sector in the state.
“We have allocated a substantial amount of money to the education sector in our 2024 Appropriation and are hopeful to jack up the allocation to a higher level in 2025, 2026, and 2027”.
The Governor promised to revive the education infrastructure of the state and recruit more qualified teachers and ensure regular training and retraining of the existing one.
The Governor also vows to increase enrollment drive of both primary and basic levels through sustainable public enlightenment campaign.
He emphasized that education is free in Zamfara and hoped that his administration will take further steps to making it compulsory
