Some suspected armed bandits armed with deadly weapons attacked Zamfara highway precisely between Tazame and’Yandoton Daji in Zamfara state.
According to an eyewitness, the bandits first blocked the main road which was few meters away from the police checkpoint in between Tazame and ‘Yandoto and opened fire on the incoming vehicles.
The source added that, “They opened fire on one of the vehicles that is driving few meters ahead of us and we have reliably gathered that two people were shot by the bandits”.
Another source said, the bandits “shot at two soldiers in the cause of an open encounter, one on the neck and another one on the leg. Motorists were forced to turn back and to a safer location around Kwatarkwashi”.
Another source said, “while the first attack took place around 2:00pm the second attack came on around 5;30pm but on same location and despite the fact that the security personnel are on that road trying to clear it for the commuters.
During the second attack another soldier was killed by the bandits.
According to another source, the same group of bandits blocked same location of the road on Friday attacked innocent commuters and killed two of them on the spot.
According to another source, the source of the recent security incidents along is connected to the arrest of the wife of one of the popular bandit’s leader Dan-Karami by the security agencies last week in Gusau.
The source believed, Dan-Karami had embarked on the recent action as a show of force against the arrest of his wife.
Police spokesperson in Zamfara SP Shehu Muhammad could not be reached for comment as at the time of filing this report.
