Members of Zamfara State House of Assembly have passed a unanimous vote supporting the commencement of the impeachment process against the state Deputy Governor Mahadi Aliyu Gusau.
The decision for the unanimous votes according to house spokesperson Mustapha Jafar Kaura followed a motion moved by the Deputy Speaker Musa Bawa Yankuzo and supported by Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma.
Jafaru said, the clerk of the House Shehu Saidu Anka adopted the voting process for the members at the instance of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly Nasiru Muazu Magarya.
He reported that (18) out of the (24) members at the plenary voted in favour of the impeachment process.
After the voting process, the house led by the Speaker passed a resolution requesting for the State Chief Judge Justice Kulu Isah Aliyu to set up a judicial panel to investigate the allegations raised against the Deputy Governor as provided for by section 188 (5) of the Nigerian constitution 1999 as amended.
According to Jafaru Kaura at the Wednesday’s plenary the Speaker instructed the Clerk to transmit copies of the allegations raised against the state Deputy Governor to each legislator to study.
With the development at the Thursday’s plenary, the impeachment train has now been shifted to the State Chief Judge and what is expected of her is to set up a judicial panel to investigate the allegations raised against the state Deputy Governor.
