Some suspected gunmen riding on motorcycles attacked an Imam and shot him to death in Magazu village in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state at the early hours Wednesday.
A source told this medium that the gunmen attacked the Imam after he finished calling for the early morning prayers.
He said they have also abducted one other person who was on his way to the mosque for the early morning prayer.
He said his funeral prayer was conducted at the early hours of Wednesday, while the other person abducted is yet to be released.
He said the military personnel stationed at Magazu have responded but could not abort the abduction.
He added that, additional soldiers in about five trucks have been sent as reinforcement to the Magazu town.
Effort to speak to Zamfara police spokesperson SP Shehu Muhammad as at the time of filing this report failed.
