Former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State Malam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad has formally declared his defection to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the state after weeks of consultation with political allies and thousands of political supporters.
Malam Ibrahim Wakkala who announced his defection at a joint Press Conference held in Gusau on Wednesday said, his decision to move out of the APC is born out of his desire to supporting the present government of Bello Matawalle in restoring peace and protecting the dignity of Zamfara people.
He noted that before his decision to defect to the ruling PDP he has made wider consultation with all that matters in his political carrier and his consultation has widely affirmed his political belief that time has come for him to depart his former party and reunite with Governor Bello Matawalle in the overall interest of the people of the state.
He affirmed that, his defection may not affect his political association with other political like minds who are still in various political parties hence his greatest fulfillment is to liberate the people of Zamfara State.
Malam Ibrahim Wakkala served as Deputy Governor under the government of Abdulazeez Yari for eight years and he was the pioneer Commissioner for Religious Affairs under whose stewardship Shariah was reimplemented in Zamfara State.
He was also part of those opposition politicians that formed the group of (8) and fought the former Governor Abdulazeez Yari Abubakar through a titanic battle which resulted to APC losing the entire 2019 elections to the PDP in the state.
Wakkala now a PDP chieftain is believed to be a close political ally of the present Governor Matawalle hence both of them served as Commissioners under the first Civilian administration of Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura from 1999-2007.
