Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle has facilitated the redeployment of additional 780 police officers to Zamfara State with the sole aim of providing re-enforcement to the existing number operating in the state.

In a statement by the Director General Public Enlightenment Media and Communication to Zamfara State Governor Yusuf Idris Gusau stated that, the effort to securing the release of these number of police officers to the state is part of the commitment of the Governor to supporting the police force and other security agencies in their quest to rid the state off criminal activities including banditry and kidnapping.

He added that, the new development followed the governor’s official visit to the office of the Inspector General of Police at Luois Edet House in Abuja on Friday.

Among those police officers to be redeployed include Police Mobile Force (PMF), officers of Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), IGP Special Forces and various other squads that will join other existing police officers involved in the operation against the bandits along Zamfara-Sokoto-Katsina forests.

“This drive is also coming on the heels of the ongoing special army operations currently taking place in the state and being personally led by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai alongside other top ranking officers of the Nigerian Army” Idris explained.

Mr Idris noted that, the idea of stick and carrot in the fight against banditry remain in force while the governor will continue to intimate the federal government and president for the unending support rendered to Zamfara state in its fight against the bandits.

It could be recalled that Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle had last week visited the President at the Presidential Villa Abuja to brief him on the security situation in the state and used the opportunity to request for the redeployment of additional security operatives to reneforce the existing ones.
